Promoting persons with disabilities through participation in media

Implemented a project ‘Promoting persons with Ddisabilities through participation in media” for Sightsavers in 2015. This activity was a part of the project “Inclusive: barrier free inclusive society for persons with disabilities’ co-financed by the European Union and Sightsavers. Under this activity, ICS provided basic journalism training to 20 persons with disabilities who were selected from across the country.
Among the 20 participants, top 10 candidates based upon their performances had been selected for internship in media at national and regional level. After completion of their internship 40 percent of them offered job in media. One of them is employed in a television. One of them is awarded Mina Award last year. They are now working confidently. Others also working as freelance journalist. Their stories are published in newspaper, online newspaper and broadcast in community radio. In support of ICS they are now planning to launch a news-portal devoted for phycically challenged people run by them. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu inaugurated the programme. Dr Mashiur Rahman, the Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister attended the closing programme as Chief Guest.
